About
Lisa Thaler, LCSW moved to Austin in October, 2019 after having maintained a private practice in New York City for the past 29 years. She received her BA from Amherst College and her MSW from New York University. She completed her psychoanalytic training at The Women’s Therapy Centre Institute, which is specifically known for its attention to feminism, gender and social justice, as well as contemporary psychoanalytic thinking.
She has dedicated the majority of her career to the treatment of eating disorders and has worked collaboratively with psychiatrists, nutritionists and MDs, when clinically indicated. She also has taught and supervised other clinicians interested in learning that specialized treatment.
During the second half of her career, Lisa also has treated couples and individuals with a host of other symptoms; PTSD, depression, communication problems, sexual dysfunction, anxiety disorders, substance abuse, infidelity and adult ADHD. She also has had experience working with those folx for whom gender is non-binary. She has studied with esteemed couples and sex therapist Esther Perel since 2014.
She became interested in the use of therapeutic Ketamine to treat mental health disorders and began working collaboratively with Dr. Glen Brooks at the NY Ketamine Center in 2014. She is excited to be continuing that important collaborative work with Dr. Paul Foster at Austin Ketamine Specialists.
